Hypocritical Oath

I lost my wife some fourteen years ago at only fifty-four.  She had been plagued by one ghastly autoimmune problem after another for twenty years until finally her destroyed immune system succumbed to the ravages of chemotherapy.  During that period of endless doctor visits, multiple surgeries, and mountains of pharmaceuticals, she only ever got worse.

And no doctor, ever, asked about her diet.  Well why would they?  They all had zero extensive training in nutrition, and the little they did have was dead wrong.  Emphasis on the dead.  My wife's diet was, as was mine, the excremental Standard American Diet saturated in sugar and carbohydrates.  That was the real problem all along, and the one that made her life a hideously painful misery for twenty years, and finally killed her.

Not one of that parade of highly credentialed nutritional ignoramuses had the faintest clue as to what was the cause of her constant distress.  Most of them still don't.  They have no excuse for this deadly ignorance, nor do the official, and useless, alphabet agencies that encouraged and abetted that ignorance.  A bunch of fools that looked at the typical diet and declared that cholesterol was the primary architect of heart disease, which endlessly preached that low fat foods were one of the ways to combat it.  The main way they wanted to combat it was drugs that lowered cholesterol.  A dramatically wrong-headed approach that is still being flogged today even as cognitive decline and Alzheimer's increases yearly, the result of literal cholesterol starvation.

Essentially, the entire medical establishment latched onto the phony cholesterol crisis and otherwise ignored the steadily increasing amount of carbage people were stuffing into their pie-holes resulting in an explosion of obesity, liver failure, diabetes, sundry autoimmune conditions, and cancers.  I was unaware of all this, as was virtually everyone in the population, including doctors.  But, none of us non-sawbones ever signed an oath that emphasized the concept of "First, do no harm."  Doctors have been visiting harm, pure hell really, on the population for six decades simply because their nutritional knowledge was not merely wrong, but catastrophically terrible.

I came across the idea of a low-carb diet over eight years ago, and have greatly benefited from it.  One simple fact illustrates this quite nicely.  I am seventy-eight and I am on no prescription meds, nor are any needed, a situation very few people my age experience.  After I began to see what low-carb could do for me, I sometimes lamented that if I had this knowledge twenty-five years ago my wife might well still be alive.  However, it would have been an uphill battle with every doc who saw her scoffing at my "dangerous" ideas.  A pox on the credentialed lot of them who seemed to misread the H.O. as "First, do harm through ignorance, then prescribe prescribe prescribe."
